The power plant will be a ground-mount system spanning 140 acres of open field in Lake County in the state of Florida.
The photovoltaic (PV) project, which is estimated to cost $200m, will deploy an estimated 140,000 solar panels and will be built in stages.
Advanced Solar Photonics, a manufacturing subsidiary of BlueChip Energy, will provide high efficiency solar panels and racking systems for 75% of the project, and remaining 25% of the modules is expected to be provided by additional equity partners.
Upon completion, the Sorrento solar plant is expected to generate an estimated 64million kWh annually, enough to fulfill the average annual electricity needs of as many as 8,000 typical Florida households.
The power produced from the PV plant is intended to be sold locally and regionally under power purchase agreements.
