Valued at around INR20.3 billion, the orders have been awarded to Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) by Bhartiya Rail Bijlee Company (BRBCL), a joint venture company of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Indian Railways.
These four units will add 24 million units of electricity every day to the Indian electricity grid on being commissioned. BHEL’s scope of work in the contract envisages design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of steam generators with electrostatic precipitators, associated auxiliaries and turbine generators with the controls and instrumentation system.
BHEL stated that it has a fully established technology for the manufacture of thermal sets up to 500MW rating and has the capability to manufacture sets up to 1,000MW rating.
BHEL noted that it is building its capacity and capability to contribute towards meeting India’s future power demand. The company said that it has already enhanced its manufacturing capacity to 10,000MW per annum and is further augmenting it to 15,000MW per annum over the next two years.
