Indian power engineering company Bharat Heavy Electricals has received a INR20.8 billion turnkey contract for the 2x200MW Tishreen thermal power plant expansion in Syria. The order has been placed by the Syrian Ministry of Electricity's Public Establishment of Electricity for Generation and Transmission.

This contract is reportedly the largest single order secured by BHEL in the overseas markets, and is also its first-ever overseas order for a large-size steam turbine power plant.

BHEL’s scope of work as part of the contract includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of main plant equipment with associated auxiliaries, balance of plant and electricals, besides controls and instrumentation, and civil works. The project is expected to be executed by the company in 33 months.
