Bharat Heavy Electrical (BHEL) is to develop a 250 MW thermal power station for Indian industrial giant Tata Power Company (TPC)

BHEL will design, engineer, manufacture, supply, erect, test and commission the main power island for Unit 8 of the Trombay plant in Maharashtra state.

BHEL has earlier supplied equipment and services for the 500 MW Units 5&6 and the combined cycle plant at Unit 7 at the same power plant, although this is the first order secured by BHEL where the boiler will be designed to suit firing of imported coal.

The news followed the announcement that BHEL had won contracts worth Rs 8,420 million (€142 million) for two thermal power projects in Rajasthan.

Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Limited (RVUNL) has placed orders for a 250 MW unit at Suratgarh power station and a 195 MW unit at Kota.

The units are slated for commissioning in fiscal 2008-2009.
