Under the Rs35bn ($513m) contract, Bhel will supply the steam generator island package for the Telangana super thermal power project (TnSTPP) project which is planned to be built within NTPCs existing Ramagundam power station located in Karimnagar district of Telangana.
Bhel will be responsible for designing, engineering, manufacturing, supplying, constructing, erection, testing and commissioning and civil works for the steam generator island package.
The firm will manufacture key equipment for the contract at its Trichy, Ranipet, Hyderabad, Jhansi and Bengaluru plants.
The company’s Power Sector division will undertake civil works as well as commission the equipment.
Bhel expects the power generated from the TnSTPP facility to significantly contribute to meet the power demand in the region.
The Indian power equipment manufacturer has so far commissioned 80% of coal-based power facilities for NTPC.
Separately, a national consortium has been formed by Bhel, NTPC and IGCAR to indigenously develop and commission 800MW advanced ultra super critical (AUSC) power plant in India.
The project will be developed as part of the National Mission on Clean Coal (Carbon) Technologies.
In January 2016, NTPC announced its plan to build a 4000MW thermal power plant and 2,250MW of solar power plant in Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
The projects are expected to contribute to the India government’s goal to have 100GW of installed solar capacity by 2022.
