Under the INR78bn($1.26bn) contract, BHEL will construct and commission a 2x660MW coal-fired supercritical thermal power project at Ennore SEZ in Tamil Nadu, a southern state in India.
The company teamed up with Power Finance (PFC) for the project by syndicating the financing package in the current competitive environment.
The contract scope includes designing, engineering, manufacturing, supplying, constructing, erecting, testing and commissioning the EPC Package comprising 2×660 MW supercritical sets.
BHEL’s Trichy, Haridwar, Bhopal, Ranipet, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Jhansi plants will manufacture the key equipment as part of the contract.
The company’s Power Sector – Southern Region will carry out civil works and erection/commissioning of the equipment.
Last month, BHEL secured a INR35,360m (575.07m) contract from the Gujarat State Electricity (GSECL) for the construction of 1×800 MW coal-fired supercritical thermal unit at Wanakbori in Kheda district of Gujarat on EPC basis.
Till date, BHEL commissioned more than 380 coal based sets, aggregating to more than 95,000MW in the country.
