India’s BHEL and Kalpataru Power Transmission have been awarded contracts worth BTN11.4bn ($212.33m) from Mangdechu Hydroelectric Project Authority (MHPA).

The contract agreements between BHEL and MHPA is due to be signed by the end of February 2013. Bhutan Power Corporation will ink the deal with Kalpataru on behalf of MHPA, reports hydroworld.com.

Under the BTN5.9bn ($110m) contract, BHEL will supply electro mechanical equipment package for the proposed 720MW Mangdechu hydropower project in Trongsa, Bhutan.

Kalpataru will construct power transmission lines to evacuate electricity from the hydropower project as per the BTN5.5bn ($102.4m) contract.

BHEL will manufacture, supply, erect and commission the electromechanical equipment for the main plant, while Kalpataru will construct the 400kV double corridor 85km-long power lines between Mangdechu Porthead yard and Jigmeling in Gelephu.

The 720MW Mangdechu hydropower project is likely to be completed by September 2017.
