Indian power plant equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has completed renovation, modernization and upgradation (RMU) of the 2x4.75MW Varjob Hydro Power Plant in Tajikistan.
BHEL had upgraded the Varjob plant, owned by Barki Tojik, from the existing two units of 3.67MW each to 4.75MW each.
The Indian company supplied the project’s entire electro-mechanical package, with funding from the Government of India.
Synchronization of the first unit was completed in November 2012. Currently, both the units have commenced operations with uprated full load.
This project reinforces business ties between India and Tajikistan while allowing India to gain access to a new market in Tajikistan, stated BHEL.
The project further supports BHEL’s aim to aid Tajikistan’s goal to expand its hydro energy sector, the company added.
Till date, BHEL has contracted equipment for about 550 units of hydro power equipment, enabling generation of over 26,000 MW of power, out of which, equipment for about 5,000 MW generation capacity has been contracted outside India.
