Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), an Indian integrated power plant equipment manufacturer, has completed the upgradation of 9.5MW Varjob micro hydro plant in Tajikistan.

The Varjob mini hydro project, owned by Tajikistan’s national power company Barqi Tojik, earlier featured a pair of 3.67MW turbine units.

BHEL has replaced those with two 4.75MW units as part of the contract that was funded by the Indian government, reports the hydroworld.com.

BHEL spokesperson said that the completion of the project will strengthen the business relations between India and Tajikistan and will open a new market for them.

The first new unit of the plant was commissioned in November 2012.

Currently, BHEL holds contracts to supply equipment for about 26,000MW of hydroelectric power, of which 5,000MW are for sources outside India.
