Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has commissioned of the first 500 MW unit at NTPC’s Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Station (STPS) Stage III, in Madhya Pradesh, Northern India.

The contract, valued at Rs 21 billion ($466 million), will BHEL supply the main plant for the 2 x 500 MW Vindhyachal plant, bringing total capacity to 3,260 MW, making it India’s largest power generating station.

The second unit is expected to be commissioned in fiscal 2006-07.
