The firm has commissioned the first of the two units, each with 270MW capacity, as part of a contract signed with GVK Power & Infra (GVKPIL).

Being developed in the Goindwal Sahib in Tarn Taran district, near Amritsar in Punjab, the project’s second unit is scheduled to be commissioned in near future.

Under the contract, Bhel was responsible for design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of Steam Turbines, Generators, Boilers, associated Auxiliaries and Electricals for the Goindwal Sahib project.

The contract scope also includes controls & instrumentation (C&I).

Behel manufactured the boiler and its auxiliaries at its Tiruchirapalli and Ranipet works in Tamil Nadu.

The steam turbine and generator were manufactured at the company’s Haridwar plant while the pumps and heat exchangers were manufactured at its Hyderabad plant and the Electricals at the Bhopal plant.

Additionally, Bhel’s Electronics Division, Bangalore supplied the C&I system.

Earlier, Bhel commissioned four hydro sets, each with a capacity of 82.5MW, at Alaknanda hydro power project in Uttarakhand for GVK Power & Infra.

In Punjab, the firm has so far commissioned 6 units of 210MW at Ropar, 2 units of 210MW and 2 units of 250MW at Bhatinda.

Till date, Bhel won contracts to supply 35 sets of 270MW rating of which, 10 sets already started operations.
