THE GOVERNMENT OF NEW South Wales, Australia has approved a US$920,000 restoration project for the Bethungra dam in Bethungra, an old railway town in the south of the state.

In addition to improvements to ensure dam safety, restoration work will also focus on the historical and tourist aspects of the structure and its surroundings making the area more attractive to visitors.The restoration is to involve lowering the height of the dam by 2.9m, the construction of a series of observation platforms, linking historical aspects of the dam to the existing rail spiral and a clean-up of the area downstream to produce a lagoon for wildlife and fauna.
