The project, spanning 3.85 acres of rooftop, is currently the largest solar photovoltaic system on Rocky Mountain’s entire electric grid and also the largest solar array in the State of Utah, Bella Energy noted.

Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Maitland Corroon said, "This solar project boosts the county’s clean energy goals while benefiting our pocketbooks."

Bella Energy executive vice president Andrew McKenna said, "Financing this project required a lot of sweat equity and 14 months of hard work to develop a funding package that would satisfy the needs each party."

The solar array has about 6,006 solar modules which deliver an estimated 2.3 million kilowatt hour of electricity in the first year, meeting 17% of the Salt Palace’s annual electrical demands.

Construction work on the solar project commenced in December 2011 and was completed in about 6 months.
