Engineering and construction firm, Bechtel has been selected by the ATCO Electric to provide project and construction management services for the Hanna Regional Transmission Development Project (Hanna) in Alberta, Canada.

The project aims to expand and upgrade ATCO’s electrical transmission system and will manage services of new and existing transmission lines, new substations, and upgrade existing substations.

The upgrade will help meet increased demand and will enable the interconnection to wind generation as well as supply electricity to pipelines and other industrial developments.

Bechtel’s Communications and Transmission business line president Toby Seay said Alberta’s growing demand for energy has put a significant strain on its existing electric power transmission system and this project will greatly enhance ATCO Electric’s ability to meet the demand of its customers.

Bechtel, along with its Canadian affiliate Bantrel will perform the project planning, project management and procurement services.

The project is expected to be complete by 2013.

Bechtel is an engineering, construction and project management company.
