The cooperation instrument was signed by Bangladesh delegation headed by State Minister for Science and Information and Communication Technology Yeafes Osman, UNB reported.
The delegation waned support from Russia in setting up of nuclear power plant and Russian side has assured for extending possible assistance to Bangladesh in this regard.
As per the protocol, a joint working group between Bangladesh and Russia will be established and its composition and schedule of work will be defined in the working process.
It was agreed in the accord to arrange further exchange of visits from both sides, particularly at experts’ level.
Bangladesh will prepare a plan by end of 2009 on organization of meetings of their experts with Russian specialists on issues of mutual cooperation.
Bangladesh delegation has discussed the matter of signing the framework agreement on the Rooppur nuclear power plant. The main procedural issues on completion of negotiating the text of agreement and carrying out its technical revise in Russian, English and Bengali were finalized.
Yeafes Osman also said the government has outlined the target of generating 20,000 MW power by 2021 to ensure universal electrification in Bangladesh.
Yeafes Osman said, nuclear energy is a major option for Bangladesh to meet the objective.
