Private sector entities are to be allowed to develop small generation project in Bangladesh with a capacity of 10 MW – 50 MW.

Following the decision by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Committee (BERC), some 23 small plants will be set up by the private sector across the country without any tender process.

BERC will also issue licenses to potential investors, select bidders, and fix tariffs.

All the proposed plants are expected to be in place by August 2006.
