The plant was developed in collaboration with Marubeni of Japan, reported thedailystar.

Marubeni was awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the project, while Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) provided the finance.

JICA has provided $491m for various components in the project, including extension of a 132kV substation for power evacuation and construction of a 1.6km gas pipeline.

According to EGCB, the plant is ready for full-scale operation but it may not begin full production until a connecting gas pipeline is constructed.

Once the pipeline is built, the plant will be able to produce 412MW consuming 64 million cubic feet of gas a day.

The electricity generated from the plant will incur a cost of BDT1.71 per unit with a 53% efficiency level.
