The governments of Bangladesh and China have formed a two-member co-ordination committee to conduct a feasibility study for implementing hydro power projects on the rivers of Matamuhuri and Shangu in Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh government wants to construct a 100MW hydro power plant on the Matamuhuri river and a 94MW plant on the Shangu river.

The two members of the committee are Touhidul Anwar Khan, the director general of water resources and planning organisation of Bangladesh, and Liu Jianming, deputy director of international co-operation for science and technology of China’s Ministry of Water Resources. The members will also begin a feasibility study on the installation of a rubber dam in the river Matamuhuri to preserve water.
