The Baltic Council of Ministers and the Baltic Assembly were quoted Bloomberg as saying that "The Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant is an important project which will increase the energy security of the region."
Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics and Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet were among the Baltic gathering who said that the Visaginas project is sound in terms of security, safety and economics.
They also noted that a final decision must be made by the government of Lithuania and the parliament regarding this planned nuclear plant in the country.
In a non-binding referendum on 14 October, nearly 63% of Lithuanian voters rejected the plan to replace the defunct Ignalina nuclear facility near the town of Visaginas with a new one.
