Under the £25m contract, Balfour Beatty will build the substation at North Killingholme, North Lincolnshire to allow electricity transfer from the Hornsea offshore wind farm to the adjacent, existing National Grid substation.
The company will be responsible for the construction of core buildings and compounds, installation of low voltage electricity equipment, low voltage cables, and communication cables as well as roads, paths, drainage and landscaping.
Scope of work under the contract also includes installation of high voltage electrical equipment by third parties.
Dong Energy Hornsea Project One project program director Duncan Clark said: "We are very pleased to award this important contract to Balfour Beatty, which plays a crucial part in the on-going development of Hornsea Project One as well as providing another example of the benefits to the UK supply chain in our investment in offshore wind.

Work under the contract is scheduled to commence in January 2016.
Located 120km off the Yorkshire coast, the Hornsea Project One project comprises three offshore wind facilities and will generate enough energy for about 800,000 homes in the UK.
Planned to be commissioned in around 2020, the Hornsea Project One is part of the Hornsea Offshore Wind Farm zone that has a maximum capacity of 4GW.
