The Bakun HEP and the new 944MW Murum HEP will provide 80% of the electricity to meet the nation’s power demand.
The Murum project, currently under construction, is expected to be in operations by end-2013.
The Sarawak state government has unveiled plans to build up to 6.2GW of additional installed capacity of electricity generation by 2020 in the province.
The projects are expected to meet the power demand from energy intensive industries being established under the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy.
The Sarawak state’s current grid installed generating capacity is 1,250MW.
