The plant will consist of four 125 MW gas-powered turbines which will increase the output and is expected to be operational within 18 months.
Demand for electricity in Iraq during the summer period is estimated at around 14,000 MW and the energy currently generated is around 9,000 MW.
The federal Ministry of Electricity will launch licensing rounds for investment in the country’s electricity sector in order to meet the demands of the summer months which was announced at the beginning of February.
The licensing rounds are part of a government scheme to raise the national electricity generating capacity to 27,000 MW over the next four years, which is estimated to cost between $3bn and $4bn.
