Ecuador's Guayas River Development Commission (Cedege) and consultants Caminosca have presented an outline of the Baba dam irrigation-hydroelectric project to central Los Rios province authorities.

The dam is meant to control and exploit water resources from the Quevedo and Vinces rivers in the north of the province in Baba valley. The proposal calls for the construction of a dam and reservoir to control 45% of the flow in the rivers each year.

Some of the stored water will be used at the proposed 50MW plant to generate 200GWh of electricity, while releases will also be made for irrigation. It is expected to provide water for 60,000ha in Samborondon in neighboring Guayas province.
