For the BART order Axion’s rail ties will range from 10′ to 22′ (3.5m to 6.7m), and ECOTRAX ties are engineered using the company’s 100% recycled formula.

The total amount of plastic diverted from landfills is estimated to be about 115,000lbs of post-consumer plastic.

Axion said Ecotrax Ties have no chemicals or preservatives added and can be reused at the end of their useful lifecycle, thereby eliminating standard disposal issues.

Axion Business Development director William Jordan said the fact that Axion can provide sustainable, low maintenance products at competitive pricing will prove to be a long-term benefit in the Bay area.

"ECOTRAX ties are the superior solution to historical materials," Jordan said.

Axion is the developer of Recycled Structural Composite technology used to produce 100% recycled plastic ECOTRAX railroad ties and STRUXURE industrial building materials.
