Two months ago, the Australian government has unveiled plans to impose a tax on carbon emissions from July 2012, before moving to a carbon trading system from mid-2015, reports Reuters.
The emissions trading scheme of Europe, caps the emissions of the bloc’s heavy industry, forcing factories and utilities to buy carbon permits to cover their emission output.
Australian prime minister Julia Gillard told in a news conference that the government will conduct senior official talks to discuss economy-to-economy measures, to be taken jointly to link the emissions trading schemes.
In 2009, the talks have failed to replace the Kyoto Protocol for a new global climate pact, which expires at the end of 2012.
The annual U.N. Climate summit, which will occur in November will include 193 countries in Durban, South Africa.
