Atomstroyeksport (ASE) has signed the first agreement covering construction and site preparation works for the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey.

The contract was awarded to Turkish firm OZDOGU Insaat ve Ticaret Ltd. Sti, following a competitive tendering process.

Work will include the barrow excavation of the site, rocky soil thorough reversion for use in civil works, as well as site grading.

The Akkuyu NPP, to be built in Mersin Province on the Mediterranean coast, will comprise four 1200 MW VVER reactors., with the first unit expected to be commissioned in 2020.
