According to Empire District Electric Co, the order granted an annual increase in revenues of approximately $2.1m, or about 19%.
The new rates will result in a total monthly increase of approximately $20 for residential customers using 1,000kWh of electricity.
The percentage change will vary based upon customer usage patterns, and the new rates went into effect on 13 April 2011.
Empire District Electric Co is an investor-owned regulated utility and provides electricity, natural gas and water service.
