Arista’s Micro-Grid is being built under the renewable energy for distributed under-supplied command environments (REDUCE) program, in partnership with the US Army’s communications-electronics research, development and engineering center.
The Intelligent Micro-Grid integrates both renewable and traditional energy sources to provide scalability and automatic operation needed to deliver highly reliable power to the military.
The company secured the development contract for the project in January 2012.
Development of the grid serves a broad spectrum of energy requirements in military areas and focuses on minimizing fossil fuels usage and reducing the need for diesel as transport fuel.
Commenting on the completion Arista sales & marketing VP Mark Matthews said, "The Department of Defense has been mandated to not only to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels, but also to provide energy security and reliability for its forward operating bases."
Following the completion of phase one, CERDEC will provide additional funding for continued development with Arista expected to hold the demonstration of the first phase at an energy security event to be held on 2-4 October 2012 at the Pentagon, US.
