This agreement follows similar agreements with Egypt and Algeria, and involves research and development of nuclear power plants, Taina said.

Argentina has two operating nuclear power plants, 360 MW Atucha I, in the province of Buenos Aires, and 650 MW Embalse in the province of Cordoba.
Atucha I came online in 1974, while the 650 MW Embalse starting operating a decade later. Argentina’s nuclear power accounts for 7%-8% of electricity.
Presently, the Argentine government is constructing a third plant, Atucha II, which is slated to come online in early 2011. The plant will produce about 700 MW, or about 3% of Argentina’s total power output.
