The presidents of Argentina and Paraguay have jointly announced a decision to add another two turbines to the Yacyreta hydro power station on the Parana river. The additional turbines aim to maximise the water flow in the river. The project will be undertaken by the binational agency, Entidad Binacional Yacyreta (EBY).

The work consists of the construction of a power house for two Kaplan turbines similar to the 20 already installed in the main station. The project is to be completed in three years. The completion will coincide with work related to raising the reservoir level at Yacyreta to el.83m. EBY is planning to call for proposals within a 90-day period. Prospective developers have to provide the financing as well as construct and operate the project.
