The contract, worth approximately INR1.2bn, is for the supply and installation of eBOP systems for two 600MW thermal power plants at Malwa in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

As part of the project, Areva T&D will manufacture and install a 400/200kV air-insulated substation, as well as distribution and power transformers and low voltage switchboards.

The Malwa plant is scheduled for commissioning in September 2011 and will generate about 28.8 million units of electricity every day. The project is being funded by the state government and the Power Finance Corporation.

Rathin Basu, country president and managing director of Areva T&D India, said: “This electrical balance of plant project at Malwa is Areva T&D’s third such contract in India in recent years. This new contract reflects the success of the two previous orders and underlines Areva T&D’s expertise in electrical balance of plant solutions.”
