French nuclear power group Areva has acquired British nuclear safety assessment specialist RM Consultants, in a bid to strengthen its industrial base in the UK.

With the purchase of RM Consultants (RMC), Areva will reportedly strengthen its know-how in the field of nuclear safety and environmental risk analysis.

The French company noted that, for thirty years, RMC has provided specialized services to major nuclear organizations in the UK.

RMC is expected to provide Areva with its extensive knowledge of the regulatory bodies and procedures which govern nuclear activities in the UK. It will also support Areva’s project ambitions in the country, both in the nuclear fuel cycle and in new builds.

Francois-Xavier Rouxel, Areva’s senior vice president for strategy, said: The acquisition of RMC demonstrates our ambition to play an active role in the UK’s nuclear renaissance. RMC’s expertise will allow Areva to offer solutions which are tailored to the needs of its British partners.
