Under the $12m contract, the company will supply NUHOMS 61BTH canisters, which are designed to handle high heat loads and safely store up to 61 used fuel assemblies from a boiling water reactor.
Manufactured by Areva’s North Carolina-based subsidiary, Columbiana Hi Tech, the canisters are scheduled to be delivered before the end of 2015.
Areva United States president and CEO Mike McMahon said the NUHOMS canister and HSM are proven for the safe and efficient storage of used fuel.

Arvea is currently constructing the Cooper plant’s horizontal storage module (HSM), which will store the NUHOMS canisters at the plant’s independent spent fuel storage facility.
