The company has installed its modular rig Archer Topaz MDR for the PP&A operations.

Archer Topaz MDR is designed based on Archer’s first modular rig Archer Emerald, which is claimed to be a breakthrough in the field of offshore drilling.

Designed to stand alone, Archer’s MDR fleet is compliant with current Norsok regulations. They are suitable on most offshore installations and perform the majority of drilling operations typically carried out from a platform, including completions and plug and abandonment, the company said.

Archer North Sea president John Lechner said: "The project being on schedule and budget, with a spotless QHSE record, is quite an achievement.

"Now we will focus on continuing the same standard of performance for the PP&A well campaign to demonstrate Archer’s capability to provide safe, reliable and cost-effective plug and abandonment services to the offshore platform market."

In addition to the ongoing PP&A activity, the Heimdal field center is undergoing installation upgrades to continue gas processing and distribution until 2030.

According to Archer, its modular rig packages are lighter and can be tailored to meet field-specific requirements, providing operators with a cost-efficient alternative to both mobile offshore drilling units and traditional platform drilling rigs on existing and planned installations.
