It has been reported by 9to5Mac that Apple’s Energy company has plans to tap into renewable energy and the first thing it is doing is to use landfills and trap methane gas.

Apple also intends to sell energy at wholesale price from its solar energy and hydroelectric facilities connected to its data center facilities.

According to reports filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the new company had been registered last month in Delaware.

Apple has already invested about $850m in a solar farm last year and it is seeking permission from FERC to sell renewable energy of 90MW it owns and 130MW of power purchase agreement with a solar farm developer in California.

The American technology company has been for some time, striving to power 100% of its data center facilities with renewable energy and it claims that most of its data centers excepting collocation facilities are being powered entirely through renewable energy.

International Business Times has mentioned that Apple could have plans to sell power directly to consumers instead of selling it at wholesale prices to the grid, as selling power in retail directly to consumers is more profitable.

Some people believe that even if Apple sells energy directly to consumers it might not have an effect on the prices, as the iPhone maker is new to the field and also not a major company.
