The $50m upgrade project includes construction of one new substation in Buchanan County and associated improvements at three existing substations in Tazewell County, as well as the addition of eight miles of new 138kV transmission line in the two counties.
Additionally, the company will rebuild approximately 12.3 miles of an existing 69kV line to 138kV, 8.6 miles of which is located in Tazewell County and the remainder in West Virginia.
Expected to complete in 2017, the project also covers replacement of the existing wood H-frame tower structures with taller and sturdier steel H-frame structures.
The company plans to hold meetings to seek input from interested parties, befor starting the upgrade work, and file for project approval from the Virginia State Corporation Commission in April 2014.
