A-Power and Lincoln County will evaluate the feasibility of constructing and operating up to a 10MW electric generating facility to be fueled with biomass derived from landscape enhancement projects undertaken by the Federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Lincoln County.
The BLM’s Ely Resource Management Plan, which has identified over 1 million acres of Pinyon-Juniper woodland in Lincoln County as part of its landscape treatment projects, will provide Pinyon-Juniper biomass to be used as fuel at the electric generating facility.
Through this feasibility study, which is expected to be completed in early 2011, Lincoln County and A-Power anticipate to develop a process that will pave the way for the utilization of local resources in building environmentally friendly power sources.
A-Power chief operating officer John Lin said that the company is interested in the potential for Pinyon-Juniper biomass to help broaden its international exposure for its core distributed power generation business.
