Achieved through APIL’s wholly owned subsidiary Korba West Power Company Limited (KWPCL), the synchronization takes the company’s generation capacity to 626.19MW.

Construction of the unit, which features Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL)-supplied boiler, turbine, and generator (BTG) equipments, started in August 2010.

KWPCL has also signed the fuel supply agreement (FSA) with South Eastern Coal Limited (SECL) in August 2013 for feeding the plant with uninterrupted coal supply.

Avantha Group founder and chairman Gautam Thapar said, ”With this milestone, APIL progresses towards our vision of achieving a market position based on solid execution, growth and accomplishment.”

APIL chief operating officer K N Neelkant said synchronization demonstrates the company’s commitment to contribute towards India’s growing energy requirement.

”We are aggressively progressing with our plans of adding to the installed capacity,” Neelkant added.

Besides synchronization of Unit1 and another under construction 600MW Unit 2, APIL also has a second thermal power plant of 1,260MW under various stages of construction near Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh through its project Jhabua Power Limited (JPL).

The company also operates a plant at Malanpur, Madhya Pradesh with an installed capacity of 26MW.

APIL is expected to have a total installed capacity of 3,806MW once all the projects start commercial operations.
