Bulgaria's Kozloduy NPP and Russian company Rusatom Service have signed a contract for the delivery of spare parts for the emergency protection and radiation control systems for Kozloduy 5&6.
Bulgaria’s Kozloduy NPP and Russian company Rusatom Service have signed a contract for the delivery of spare parts for the emergency protection and radiation control systems for Kozloduy 5&6.
Russian state corporation Rosatom said its Rusatom Service subsidiary is to supply equipment for the emergency and warning systems and for the centralised information and measuring system for radiation control.
Replacement of the parts will take place during planned annual outages. Rusatom Service will also replenish spare parts stocks for the plant’s safety systems.
Earlier, Rosatom Service completed an upgrade of Kozloduy 6 designed to extend its lifespan. Upgrading the 1000MWe VVER unit took place between 5 September and 27 October and included replacement of the turbogenerator stator, increasing the installed capacity to 1100MWe.
Rusatom Service signed a contract with Kozloduy in 2013 for the supply of equipment and maintenance services needed for unit 6. It recently signed a €24.7m ($26.6m) contract for modernisation of Kozloduy 5. That project is expected to be completed in 2018.
Bulgaria aims to extend the lifespan of the two units before their operational licences expire in 2017 and 2019. Bulgaria’s Energy Ministry announced in July that Kozloduy will invest €360m in the modernisation of units 5&6.
