The move is part of the government’s plan to repair, expand and build new hydroelectric facilities to reduce Angola’s energy deficit.
Currently, the Cambambe dam operates with four generator groups, with a capacity of 45MW each, two of which have been out of service since 2009.
Angola is also collaborating with Namibia to carry out joint studies for construction of a 200MW Baynes hydroelectric dam.
Work is also progressing to modernize other hydroelectric facilities, including Mabubas, Matala and Lomaum.
