As reported, after a review of Anglo’s coal portfolio, the company’s 75% stake in Peace River Coal was declared a ‘non-core asset’.
Last month, Anglo revealed several changes across its businesses to create a streamlined management structure and focus on its core mining portfolio. The recent divestment plan is said to be in addition to other assets that the company put up for sale in October.
Anglo has planned to sell its Scaw Metals steel division, construction materials unit Tarmac, and portfolio of zinc assets. The company also revealed last month that divestment of these assets will be undertaken in a manner and on a timetable that will maximise value for its shareholders.
Other shareholders in Peace River Coal include Canadian mining companies Hillsborough Resources and NEMI Northern Energy & Mining.
