Production from the company’s South African-focused business Kumba Iron Ore increased 25% to 11.3 million tonnes in Q4, following the strike in the fourth quarter of 2012.

The company reported 3% increased in export metallurgical coal production to 4.7 million tonnes with record full-year production of 18.7 million tonnes, due to sustained longwall productivity improvements.

Export thermal coal production increased 8% to 7.9 million tonnes during the quarter and copper production rose 24% to 214,400 tonnes.

Nickel production grew by 38% to 10,200 tonnes during the quarter, due to improved operational stability of the furnaces at its Barro Alto site in Brazil.

The company’s niobium production increased by 20% to 1,200 tonnes, and its fertiliser production rose 2% in the fourth quarter.
