SAF Hydroelectric has awarded a contract to Andritz VA TECH HYDRO for the installation of StrafloMatrix units at the lower Saint Anthony Falls Lock & Dam in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The StrafloMatrix units are designed for the development of hydropower at low-head sites with existing dam or gate structures, utilising a factory assembled grid or “matrix” of small propeller turbine-generator units.
The 16 units will produce a total of 10 MW and are scheduled to come online in late 2008. SAF Hydroelectric is majority owned by Brookfield Power, a major producer of hydropower in North America.
