A project to clean up the Andreeva Bay nuclear submarine site on the Kola Peninsula in northwest Russia is currently in progress by the open joint stock company Federal Centre for Nuclear and Radiation Safety. VNIPIET is the developer of the Construction Design Documentation used in the framework of the Project implementation.

The Northern Dimension Environmental Partnership (NDEP) Support Fund, administered by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), was established in 2002. It is helping finance cleanup projects there.

One tender, whose reply deadline is 27 February, is a 29-month contract for design and manufacture of two rail-mounted trolleys for cask transportation.

That contract includes:

  • development of detailed design, fabrication drawings and operating documentation for the rail-mounted trolleys – one for 20-tonne and one for 40-tonne loads – for the transportation of casks (including the development of a programme of acceptance trials);
  • agreement of drawings and documentation with the Employer and regulatory approval;
  • manufacturing of the trolleys;
  • manufacturing of necessary accessories and devices for acceptance trials and for maintenance of the trolleys;
  • delivery and supervision of installation of the trolleys;
  • training of personnel nominated by the Employer;
  • start-up and adjustment, acceptance trials and commissioning of the trolleys.

A second tender from FCNRS, replies for which are due 31 March 2014, is for a cask transporter. According to a tender published on the EBRD website in August, the casks could weigh up to 40t.

That contract includes:
development of detailed design and operating documentation for the Cask Transporter (including agreement of documentation with the Purchaser and development of a programme of acceptance trials);

  • fabrication of the Cask Transporter;
  • fabrication of necessary accessories and devices for acceptance trials and for maintenance of the Cask Transporter;
  • delivery of the Cask Transporter to the Andreeva Bay site;
  • training of personnel nominated by the Employer;
  • setting to work and handover of the Cask Transporter.
