The 5.25MW Kalpong hydro plant in Andaman and Nicobar Island, India, has been commissioned.

The National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) took up the project for construction as a deposit work and commissioned it in a record time of 36 months -15 months ahead of schedule.

Kalpong is the first hydro project in Andaman and Nicobard Islands, which are presently supplied with power generated by diesel gensets. It will have a 34m high and 138m long concrete dam, a 27m high and 146m long rockfill dam, 300m longlink channel, 133m long tunnel, three penstocks and powerhouse with three 1.75MW units and a switchyard.
