US-based American Superconductor Corporation (AMSC) has secured an order for the supply of wind turbine electrical control systems worth in excess of $30m.
The order was placed by India-based Inox Wind Limited with deliveries expected to commence by March 2013.
AMSC’s electrical control systems are an integrated, high-performance suite of power electronics systems that include the wind turbine power converter cabinet, internal power supply and various controls.
The systems serve as the brains in a wind turbine enable high-performance operation by controlling power flows, regulating voltage, monitoring system performance, controlling the pitch of the wind turbine blades and the yaw of the turbines to maximize efficiency.
AMSC president and CEO Daniel P. McGahn said that this partnership has made Inox their key wind turbine manufacturing partners with India emerging as one of their key markets.
Inox Wind Limited director Devansh Jain added, "To date, we have installed nearly 250 MW of high-quality, reliable, cost-competitive wind turbines in India — a solid step toward our objective of becoming India’s premiere wind power company.
"We are looking forward to continuing our rapid growth in the Indian market and working with AMSC to help India meet its energy demands with clean, emission-free power."
The delivery of the shipments is expected to be completed in 2014.
