The US-based power utility will apply the new solution across all its transmission substations system-wide to enhance the performance and reliability of its electric transmission network.
The Asset Health Center builds on the AEP-ABB Transmission Technology Alliance, which combines ABB’s research and development expertise and AEP’s operational innovation.
The new solution integrates equipment-based operational technology and enterprise information technology from ABB and its software group Ventyx, respectively.
In addition, the Asset Health Center will leverage operational and diagnostic expertise contributed by the US-based AEP.
AEP grid development vice president Robert W Bradish noted that the two firms have been working to automate situational awareness of asset conditions.
"Integrating this new solution will also help to identify assets requiring replacement as they reach the end of their useful life, "Bradish added.
"The Asset Health Center is an example of the technical innovation we always pursue to achieve the highest standard of safety, efficiency and reliability in our electric transmission system."
Ventyx chief executive Jeff Ray said the new Asset Health Center would help utilities to ensure the reliability of critical infrastructure assets upon which depends the country’s power grid.
"By transforming real-time and historical data into meaningful and timely insights into the health of their assets, utilities can ensure greater uptime and uninterrupted service delivery for customers, while lowering their own operations and maintenance costs," Ray added.
