The company has requested for a certificate of public convenience on the project, while the hearings related to the request are scheduled on 13 May and 17 May with the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC).

Ameren chairman, president and CEO Thomas Voss was quoted by bizjournals.com as saying that the company’s single largest planned investment is the Illinois Rivers transmission project.

"This approximate $1.1 billion MISO (Midwest Independent System Operator)-approved regional multivalue project involves a construction of a new high-voltage transmission line across the state of Illinois," Voss added.

"Upon receipt of a certificate from the ICC, we will begin to acquire right of way for the transmission line with a full range of construction activities expected to begin in 2014."
