Under the contract, Amec will conduct laboratory-based analysis to characterize waste from the site’s decommissioning program.
The company will determine the radioactive and chemical make-up to allow for safe disposal of the waste.
Amec Foster Wheeler Clean Energy Europe business consultancy director Greg Willetts said: "Our laboratories have been delivering high quality, reliable analysis results since the 1980s and this award confirms our position as a leading provider of decommissioning services to the UK nuclear industry."
The first radioactive sludge was removed at Sellafield site in March, marking a major step forward in its clean-up.
Around 1,500 cubic meters of radioactive sludge will be emptied from First Generation Magnox Storage Pond.
The pond was constructed to store, cool and prepare used Magnox nuclear fuel for recycling into new fuel.
