Altona Energy has inked a cooperation agreement for application of Rentech's technologies in gasification of coal and biomass at its Arckaringa project located in South Australia.
The Arckaringa project, is the joint venture between Altona and CNOOC-NEIA a subsidiary of Chinese oil major CNOOC, to evaluate the development of the estimated 7.8 billion tonnes of coal.
The company plans to initiate gasification of biomass in conjunction with the gasification of coal at the project for the production of energy products, including diesel, jet fuel, naptha and electricity.
Rentech is the owner of proprietary technologies for the Fischer-Tropsch process and the gasification of biomass to produce synthesis gas (Syngas).
In addition, the company signed a strategic partnership agreement with UOP to use UOP’s technologies for Syngas conditioning and for upgrading FT intermediate hydrocarbon products into commercial grade products.
